Forestry Assistance

Responsible forestry and wildlife management are an integral part of environmental conservation. The Benzie Conservation District Forester helps landowners manage their forests by answering questions, conducting on-site visits, producing educational articles, and writing management plans. The Forester is also useful in helping landowners through the process of establishing long-term woodlot management practices and conducting timber sales.

We have initiated a reforestation mission in Benzie County! Over 45,000 acres of land in our county is unforested, leaving enough room to plant over 40 million trees! Our annual seedling sales provide plenty of stock to begin this reforestation effort. Each spring and fall, our forester coordinates a tree sale to provide seedlings and young transplants to the residents and businesses of Benzie County. Additionally, these sales provide much needed financial support for the District’s programs. Participation in our reforestation initiative, therefore, benefits the environment of Benzie County in two ways!
